Staying safe from phishing & fraudulent messages

Your account security is important to us. Unfortunately, bad actors sometimes attempt to impersonate Humanitix, vendors, or colleagues to trick hosts into sharing sensitive information or making payments.

Humanitix works hard to ensure our systems are secure. You should also be aware of how to identify genuine communications from us, recognise phishing attempts, and keep your account secure.


How we communicate with you

The Humanitix team may contact you via phone or email with legitimate actions relating to your account or events, including:

  • Notification that your event has been paid out

  • New orders have been made for your event

  • A new attendee enquiry has been received

  • Request to add and/or nominate a bank account so payouts can be processed

  • Request to provide tax information (US hosts only)

  • Notification that another user has shared permissions with you

  • Newsletter and product update emails (if opted in).

When we do, we'll always direct you to complete any required actions by logging in to your account yourself.

We do not send emails or SMS asking you to click a link to log in or update your account details.

Instead, we'll tell you where to find the relevant section after you've signed in to your account as normal.


How to tell if a message is really from us

Emails will always come from our @humanitix.com email domain, such as "[email protected]" or "[email protected]".
Look for incorrect spelling or formats such as "[email protected]" that are trying to impersonate our domain.

We'll also never ask you to:

  • Enter your password through a link in an email or message

  • Provide your card details

  • Share your one-time verification codes

  • Send us your banking password or online banking credentials

  • Make an urgent payment to release funds

  • Download unfamiliar software to access your account

If you're ever unsure, don't follow the instructions in the message.

Instead:

  1. Open your browser yourself

  2. Go directly to our website > www.humanitix.com

  3. Check your event or account settings for any notifications about missing info (if required).

  4. If you're still unsure, contact the Humanitix support team via the messenger after logging in, or send us an email at [email protected]


Common signs of phishing

Be cautious if a message:

  • Creates a sense of urgency ("Update now or your account will be suspended")

  • Asks you to log in through a link

  • Requests your password

  • Requests your card details

  • Requests for banking login credentials

  • Asks you to send money

  • Contains spelling mistakes or unusual formatting

  • Comes from an unexpected sender or does not use our email domain (@humanitix.com)

  • Doesn't match our usual style of communication

Even if a message appears to come from a legitimate messaging platform, it may still have been sent by a scammer.

For example, buyers can use the contact host button on the event page or order confirmation email to send event hosts a message. This email is sent from a Humanitix domain, but the content is created entirely by the sender.


I think I've been scammed or shared sensitive information

  1. Change your Humanitix account password immediately (and any other account that you may use the same details for).

  2. Review your account for any unexpected changes.

  3. Contact the Humanitix support team.

  4. Contact your bank immediately if you've shared banking or payment information, as they may be able to help protect your account or stop fraudulent transactions.

The sooner you act, the greater the chance of limiting any potential impact.


Examples of phishing emails

The following are examples of non-genuine messages from Humanitix. Note the common themes or identifiers.

  1. Urgent request to update details or lose access to the account

  2. Requests you to update details through a link

  3. Link is not using our official domain (@humanitix.com)

  4. Misspelling of Humanitix ("Humanltlx")
