With secondary tickets you can showcase selected ticket types onto a 'secondary' page in your event's checkout. Separate the customer journey into 'primary' tickets such as "entry tickets", and 'secondary tickets' such as additional workshops, experiences, or supplementary tickets like glamping and vehicle passes!
When navigating to the ticket selection page, buyers will first choose from your 'primary' tickets page, before continuing to the 'secondary' more tickets page.
Secondary tickets can be a great alternative to offering add ons as they retain the functionality of ticket types such as manual discounts, accessible reporting, and issuing a QR code for on-the-day check in.
The following features do not work with secondary ticket types:
Access codes
Automatic discounts
Add ons
Box office - Secondary tickets cannot be purchased via the Humanitix for Hosts app and must be purchased through the online event page
These features will still work for your primary ticket types.
Secondary tickets and Add ons cannot be used in the same event. Add ons that have been enabled for an event will no longer appear if secondary tickets are enabled.
How to enable secondary tickets for your event
Secondary tickets must be enabled by the Humanitix support team for your event.
While this tool remains in its 'beta' version, please contact the Humanitix support team if this option does not appear for you.
Create your secondary tickets
Once secondary tickets have been enabled for your event, you can create them like normal ticket types.
Navigate to the tickets > ticket types page and select the secondary tickets tab
Create your ticket type(s)
Any tickets listed under the primary tickets tab will appear on the main ticket selection page a buyer reaches after clicking "get tickets".
You can also group together multiple ticket types using ticket groups to clean up your ticket selection page.
Look for the secondary groups tab on the ticket groups page.
How do secondary tickets appear on the event page?
Your event checkout page will be split into two ticket selection pages; a 'primary' ticket selection page and a 'secondary' more tickets page.
After selecting their primary ticket(s) buyers will be directed to the more tickets page OR they can choose to skip to more tickets on the primary ticket selection page to navigate directly to your secondary tickets.
Turn off "skip to more tickets"
If you do not want buyers to proceed to the secondary page without first selecting a ticket on the primary page, you can choose to turn off the Skip to More Tickets button.
Navigate to advanced > settings on the left-hand menu bar and toggle off Enable "Skip to add ons".
Set a ticket to appear only when another ticket has been selected
You can set a ticket type to only appear on the secondary "more tickets" page if a specific primary ticket has been added to a buyer's cart. This is great for controlling access to ticket types if they are conditional on another, for example, ticket types related to only specific day entry ticket types.
Create your secondary ticket type
Click the settings ⚙️ of your ticket type
Toggle on hidden and select conditional on ticket selection
Select any ticket type(s) which will trigger this secondary ticket to appear, once added to a buyer's cart
Note: Secondary tickets that are set to appear conditionally will do so when any of the ticket types you have selected are added to a buyer's cart.
You currently cannot set a ticket type to appear when a specific combination of ticket types or a specific number of tickets have been added to a buyer's cart.
Ticket sales start end/dates on secondary tickets
Ticket sale settings can be applied as per normal, however, the when option can only be applied to other tickets within the same 'primary' or 'secondary' ticket tab.
For example, you cannot set a 'secondary ticket' to go on sale when a 'primary' ticket sells out.
Commonly asked questions
Can I move a primary ticket to a secondary ticket, or vice-versa?
No, once a ticket type has been created it cannot be moved from it's original primary or secondary position. You must disable/delete this ticket type and create a new one under the correct stage.
Should I use add-ons or secondary tickets?
Add ons are a great option when offering 'non-entry' options such as physical merchandise or equipment as they appear on a separate checkout page to your ticket types and do not count towards your ticket capacities. However, add ons do not currently support discounts, access codes, generate a QR code, nor can they be checked in via the Humanitix for Hosts app.
Secondary tickets are a better alternative for offering items like this, or, supplementary event entry options if you need to retain the functionality of ticket types. Secondary tickets allow you to create the same "multi-page" layout of your checkout as add-ons, where you can highlight your main 'entry' tickets on the primary page and additional options on your secondary page. These can include both physical options, such as merchandise, or, supplementary options such as camping, vehicle passes, breakout workshops and other sub-events.
You can use reporting groups to help track sales and check-ins across your different ticket and item categories.
