How to offer early bird or pre-sale tickets

Set up early bird tickets, pre-sale, waterfall pricing, and custom release dates for your ticket types

Updated over 3 months ago

Create multiple ticket types to offer "early bird" entry options for your event, boosting your ticket sales. You can adjust the sales start/end settings to automatically put early bird tickets on and off sale based on specific dates and times or sales milestones.

Create your "early bird" and "standard" ticket options

The easiest way to offer "early bird" pricing is to create multiple ticket types at different prices. These ticket types can be visible on your event page at the same time but with 'staggered' release dates.

To create your early bird tickets:

  1. Manage your event via the events tab

  2. Navigate to tickets > ticket types

  3. Create multiple tickets each with a distinct name e.g. Early bird, Second release, General Admission

  4. Set the price and ticket capacity. Capacities may reflect how many you would like or expect to sell of each ticket type.

Set when your early bird ticket sales will start or end sales

Limiting the availability of discounted tickets either through capacity or date is one of the most effective ways to drive early ticket sales.

By default, all ticket types will go on sale when you publish your event and will end sales when the event end date passes.

You can override these settings and choose when your early bird and secondary ticket sales will start. There are three options:

Option 1: Early Bird ticket sales to start/end at a specific date and time

Best if you're running a promotion to end early bird sales at a specific time regardless of the quantity sold.

  1. Click the settings ⚙️icon on each of your ticket types

  2. Select at under the ticket sales start/end header

  3. Select the start & end times for sales for each ticket so that each ticket type begins sales after the previous one ends.

For example: Early bird ticket sales end on July 1st 9:00am. General Admission tickets start sales on July 1st 9:00am

Option 2: Early bird ticket sales to start/end "x" days or hours before your event

Best if you're running a recurring event with multiple event dates.

This date setting will apply to each date.

For example: An event is running on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Early bird ticket sales must end to end ‘7 days prior’ to the event date.

Option 3: Secondary tickets to start when early bird tickets have sold out

Best if you have a set allocation or quantity of each ticket type and want to ensure the previous tier sells out. The next ticket type tier will automatically go on sale.

  1. Click the settings ⚙️icon on your second release/general admission ticket type

  2. Select when under the ticket sales start/end header

  3. Select the first release/early bird ticket in the start after field

  4. Repeat this step if you have multiple release ticket types.
