Create discount codes and automatic discounts
Updated over a week ago

Discounts are a great way to entice newcomers, reward your returning customers or offer discounted tickets to VIPs and members, and can be offered via one-time use codes or set up to apply automatically during checkout.

🏷️ Create a discount code

Discount codes can be created for a % or $ figure discount across one, multiple, or all of your ticket types. You can also restrict the number of times a discount code can be used per order and over it’s lifetime - create as many as you like!

  1. Manage your event via the events tab

  2. Head to promote > discounts on the left-hand menu bar

  3. Click create discount code

  4. Give your code a name
This is the code ticket buyers will enter during checkout

  5. Choose whether the discount is a fixed dollar ($) amount or percentage (%)

  6. Select the ticket types the code can apply to

  7. Set the code usage limits

    1. Quantity refers to how many times the code can be used in total across all orders

    2. Maximum use per order refers to the maximum number of tickets in a single order this discount code can be used for

  8. Set a timeframe between which the discount code is valid

⚠️ Discounts apply per ticket.

For example, a 10% discount code applied on an order of 4 tickets will discount 10% off each ticket price. If the price of tickets varies, so too will the discount.

⚡ Create an automatic discount

Trigger a discount to be applied automatically when a certain dollar value is reached or a combination of tickets is purchased - no need to enter a code!

For example: Get 10% off for group booking of 4 single tickets or more

  1. Head to promote > discounts on the left-hand menu bar

  2. Click create automatic discount

  3. There are two triggers that can be set

    1. Value of order

    2. What is purchased

💲 Trigger a discount when a certain dollar value is reached

  1. Select value of order

  2. Enter a name for your discount
For example: “$20 off when you spend $200”

  3. Set the trigger amount

  4. Set the discount amount that will be applied per ticket

  5. Select what tickets can be discounted

  6. Set the quantity of the discount (how many times it can be applied overall) and the maximum use per order (how many tickets can be discounted in one order

For example: You’re offering Adult ($80), Concession ($70) and Child ($40) tickets and wish to offer $20 off the entire order if a ticket buyer spends $200. The type of tickets they select is not important.

An automatic discount is triggered at $200 for $20 off per ticket, applied to all ticket types. The maximum use per order is set to ‘1'. This means once an order reaches $200, $20 will be discounted from '1’ ticket, and therefore the whole order.

🎫 Trigger a discount when certain tickets are purchased

  1. Select what is purchased

  2. Select the ticket types and the number of those tickets that will need to be added to an order to trigger the discount

  3. Set the discount amount that will be applied per ticket

  4. Select what tickets can be discounted

  5. Set the quantity of the discount (how many times it can be applied overall) and the maximum use per order (how many tickets can be discounted in one order

For example: buy any 4 tickets or more and receive 5% off each ticket discount.

  • In Trigger, select “All ticket types” and set the quantity to “4”;

  • In Discount, set discount to “5%” off per ticket and applies to “All ticket types”;

  • In Quantity, make sure this is more than all of the ticket type capacities combined so the discount will never run out. In this example, we assume there are 100 tickets in total for sale.

This means once a ticket buyer selects any 4 or more tickets, a 5% discount will be applied to each of the tickets selected.

💡Tip: Set group bookings such as Tables of 10 or Family packages (2 x Adult, 2 x Child tickets) can be easily set using the packaged ticket feature

There are many ways to set up automatic discounts using these triggers and all combinations can’t be covered in this guide. Try testing your discounts out by clicking preview/view in the top right and going through the customer journey. Remember the key points of what is triggering a discount and that discounts apply per ticket

🌏 Create a global discount code

You can also create a discount code that can be used across multiple, or all of your events! Great for offering membership discounts.

  1. Select promote via the top menu bar

  2. Click global discount codes

  3. Create your code and select the event(s) you wish this code to apply for

💡 Tip: Selecting all events will mean your code applies to all existing and future events. Both quantity and maximum use per order are applied on the ticket level.

For example: you have 10 tickets in a booking, a discount code with a "Quantity" of 10 will be used up with this single order.

📋 Create multiple unique discount codes in bulk

This is particularly useful when creating a unique discount code for each person (for example, you can use their individual emails as the discount code).

  1. Head to the promote > discounts codes page on your event

  2. Click create discount code / add code > select CSV upload

  3. Download the template CSV file and copy your unique discount codes > save
One row = one discount code

  4. Upload the CSV file

  5. Set up the discount amount as directed in the steps above

👈 How ticket buyers apply their discount code

There are two ways to apply discount codes for ticket buyers:

A. Enter the code manually via the enter details page during checkout. The discount code field will appear above the buyer information

B. Give the attendee the unique event URL page to automatically apply the discount code.

  1. Find your discount code on the discount codes page

  2. Copy the link next to your discount

  3. Share this link with your guests

  4. This link will direct them to the event page as per normal. The discount code will be automatically applied as they move through the checkout process.

🔎 Track the usage of discount codes

  1. Select your event via the events tab

  2. Head to reports > discounts on the left-hand menu

  3. This page shows you the overall usage of each discount code

  4. Download this report to see individual orders that have used discount codes
