Add GST settings and tax details for AUD events

Updated this week

By default, events running in AUD are not subject to GST. You can adjust your event's GST settings to automatically charge and calculate GST on all paid ticket sales.

Humanitix does not remit any GST to the ATO on your behalf. GST is paid out to you with your ticket sales.

Humanitix cannot give any tax advice. Please contact your organisations finance or accounts team, or local tax authority for any GST related questions.

To enable GST on your event:

  1. Manage your event

  2. Navigate to payments and fees > settings on the left-hand menu

  3. Under tax information click yes to subject your event to GST

  4. Enter your business's legal name, ABN, and registered address

  5. Choose to pass on or absorb GST

    1. Passed on: GST is added to the ticket price and paid by the buyer at checkout

    2. Absorbed: Ticket prices are shown inclusive of GST and buyers pay only the face-value of the ticket.

  6. Click save

Your business details entered on the tax information page will also appear on the buyer's invoice/receipt.

Add your ABN or company information to buyer receipts/invoices

All buyers receive an order confirmation email with a PDF tax invoice. However, to issue a valid tax invoice, your business details - such as your company name (or trading name), address, and ABN - must be provided via the tax information page.

Without this information, buyers receive a receipt that may not meet tax compliance requirements.

If your business/event is not subject to GST but you wish to show your details on a buyer's receipt/invoice, you can still select no and enter your business details:

Tax compliant invoices for buyers

Generally speaking, any entity with a tax ID should issue a tax invoice whether or not they are registered for GST, or the item is GST free. This includes any sole traders.

How to show ticket prices exclusive of GST

If your event is subject to GST and you are passing on GST you can show the ticket price before GST on the event page. By default, ticket prices will be shown to buyers inclusive of any GST.

Navigate to advanced > settings on the left-hand menu bar and toggle ON show prices before GST.

โ€‹A breakdown of the ticket cost including tax and booking fees will be available to the buyer in their order total during checkout.
